THE RITUAL

The apartment's nightmare awaits. As you perform the ritual, you must carefully avoid the entity while navigating through haunting dimensions, each step fraught with peril.

This build of the game is an unfinished prototype and was done for ScreamTV game jam by two artists with no coding experience. There were a lot of mechanics we wanted to implement that are missing (check concept art), so we tried to put our focus on the setting, environment, and mood of the game.

Controls:

WASD: move

H: hide / unhide

F: pick up items

C: crouch

V: change scene (will be automated in future builds when the entity spawns)

Q: Lose (to go to the death screen)

Developer's Notes:

Some mechanics we wanted to implement but did not have enough time:

- Be able to place the items picked up around TV to complete the puzzle and escape.

- Having a randomized timer between 20-40 seconds that switches the scene automatically and spawns the entity.

- Creating the entity model, setting up AI navigation, having some animations when it attacks you.

- Health system/lose factor; we wanted to have it where if the entity spawns and hits you, it switches back automatically to the normal scene, but the lighting gets worse, your walking gets slower. You have 3 health points and each time you get hit, these things get worse to make it more difficult since it's a small space. After 3 hits, you lose.

- Have a very basic inventory system where you can keep track of the items you need/have already.

Some bug fixes needed:

- Post-process scene doesn't match gameplay when hiding behind furniture.
